This is a starter list of the laws of the island.
The Island is a signatory of the 12 basic rights of beings:
- Every sentient being has the right to life, freedom, property, due process
- All sentient beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights
- No one shall be held in slavery or servitude without first their consent and for no longer than 5 years.
- The slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
- All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.
- No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
- Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of his country.
- Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.
- Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion
- Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.
- Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.
- Everyone has the right to education.
Base Laws of the Island:
- Do not kill people.
- Do not tell a lie about your neighbors.
- Do not steal or destroy the possessions of others.
- Do not Violate the rule of law or those who Wield it
- One must report or stop lawlessness if seen
- All Land Is owned by the Island
- Only Citizens may “own” Land.
- Any person born outside off of the Island may not become a Citizen unless approved by the Governor
- Citizens word is to be taken before a visitor
- All may carry weapons except in Gov. buildings or on private property where it is posted as such
- Magic is allowed but may be restricted within different spaces.
- All must register when they enter the Island.
- The Governor may compel anyone residing on the Island to perform acts of service for the Government in times of need. They will receive fair compensation for their work.
- All purchases will be subject to the Tax of the land except on Government business
Regulations
- Necromancy: May be practiced if done so humanely. Monitored by the Dean of Magic at the University.
- Current tax rate on purchases is 10%
- Wealth Tax on any Payment Over 50,000 cherries
- Housing will be assigned to all adults through the Land and Housing Dept.
- Payments will be made for rentals to the Land and Housing Dept
- Land purchases must be paid to the Land and Housing Dept with the 10% wealth tax
- Farm Land may be reclaimed by the Dept of Housing and Land for a fair price.
- Land that is Owned by a resident must be maintained.
- Land may be passed to blood heirs.
- On death if no blood heirs are available, the land will be returned to the crown
- If a will is present upon death, the Island will buy the land for a fair price and the proceeds may be passed to the non-blood heir subject to the 10% wealth tax
